Fish recognition
“What kind of fish was that?”, is a general question you often hear after a dive. If you want to be the diver who has the answers instead of the one asking the questions, follow the Fish ID specialty. You will enjoy your dives even more if you can recognize the animals that you see underwater. And if you can identify the main groups that fish fall into and know the characteristics of those groups.
Once you’ve learned to recognize the type of fish you’ll see, you’ll find it easier to look up the exact species after a dive. If you know which group of fish a particular fish belongs to, you can more easily look up the name of the fish in that region or ask the local dive instructor more specifically what kind of fish you have seen by being much more specific.
During the two dives you will learn:
- to determine the characteristics of local fish species and genera
- techniques and strategies for fish research
- about Project AWARE activities that help protect marine life.
What do you need?
- Certification as a (Junior) Open Water diver
- Minimum age 10 years
- Good physical condition
